I am Chinese American. I met a lady from Australia, and we had an interesting conversation about how we were taught to eat avodados. My parents taught me to cut the avocado in half (with skin on), remove seed, sprinkle soy sauce in the middle, and eat with a spoon. Her parents taught her to peel and slice the avocado, then layer the slices with crushed ice and sugar, for a light dessert.

The way I was taught to eat avacados was like the way you were taught. Cut it in two, take the seed out and eat with a spoon. Another way is to slice it and put it in salad.

They certainly are good with just soy sauce, as you say. I also like them chopped up into 1 inch cubes, and then mixed with some chopped onion and mayonaise as a salad.
