Here is a question concerning IBM's VGA in text mode: Character generation appears to be done using a text cell of 16 rows by 9 columns, but uses a character generator table consisting of 16 byte entries for each character. The ninth column is blank except for character codes 0xC0 through 0xDF, for which it is a copy of the eighth column. This is different from EGA text mode, which uses a 14 row by 8 column text cell. The question: Is there any way to get text-mode operation out of the VGA with programmable character sets using an 8-column text cell on the screen? Or, is there a way to enable replication of column 8 into column 9 in the present VGA text mode for character codes outside the range 0xC0-0xDF? I can't seem to get my hands on a VGA Tech Ref. (I'm begining to wonder if such an animal exists. Hal Snyder Automated Concepts Inc. respond to: Tim L Lowe UUCP: ..ihnp4!acich!tim PSTN: 1-312-346-8640 -- Tim L Lowe Automated Concepts Inc.
