I have been working on a SGI 4D/60 system producing colored animation of solutions to time dependent partial differential equations solved on a Cray X/MP we have ethernetted to the graphics workstation. I really want to use the RGB outputs of the color monitor to make movies. I have experience with a straight color film recorder, where the RGB from a device are used directly to phototgraph the RGB components of the film, and the frame is advanced in the camera via a trigger from the video monitor. Film is really quite nice, but it would be nicer if I could do essentially the same thing (frame by frame triggered recording) onto VHS format video tape. Thus my question to you out there is if any of you have facilities for doing this please tell me what hardware you use, and if you can a little about the spatial and color resolution of your final products. I am really not interested in an entire video editing system, and if new video camera technologies (with triggers) do exist that give high resolution I would also be interested. Thanks a heap, Michael Mascagni mascagni@acf4.nyu.edu elsie!ncifcrf!mascagni@mimsy.umd.edu
