Have netpeople started to look at the graphics extensions to X-windows that
some vendors are proposing? There are two proposals out there that I have
heard of: X-3D and X-3DGI. X-3D is based on PHIGS, I believe- I haven't seen
the proposal. X-3DGI is supposed to be a cleaner implementation which is
"lower level" than X-3D and therefore more flexible, but high enough level to
be both network-efficient and to take advantage of special purpose graphics
engine hardware. Both are 3-D, and object oriented, and therefore much more
suited to graphics-in-network-window-environments than the picture oriented
stuff in X now, or in NEWS. Comments?
