kuo@skatter.UUCP (Dr. Peter Kuo) (01/18/88)
I am looking for suggestions on plotting packages that will fulfill the following requirements: hardware: IBM PC/XT/AT-type machine, with/without NDP graphics mode: o CGA (320x200 colour graphics and 640x200 high res); o Hercules; o EGA support would be nice, but not necessary since I don't have an EGA card (8-( o would be nice (but, again, not necessary) to have drivers for Epson printers, postscript laser printers and various plotters (such as the HP7470) language: o needs to be callable from FORTRAN (no flames please): - MicroSoft v4.0/4.1 - Ryan-McFarland/IBM Profort v2.0/2.1 - Lahey F77L v2.1/2.2 o *would* be nice if the same package can be called by the different compilers. capability of the package: o simple line/point/symbol drawings (*) o text labelling (*) o 3-D capability with hidden line removal option o contour plots o would like source of package (*) these are must, since the others can be done in terms of these "lower level" routines. My collegaues and I do a lot of plotting and do all the dirty work ourselves using the lower level routines (such as draw_line, move_pen type routines; we are all used to the "old" PLOT10-days). Over the past year or two, several "assembler packages" were posted to the net but they were mainly geared towards C. We have made some small attempts to convert them for FORTRAN but due to the lack of our spare time, we have not much success. I am sure someone out there has something like that. I have looked into various magazines. Most of them costs >> $200 and no sources are available. We are mainly doing this (plotting/graphics) for fun at our spare time, so sources are important. I would like to hear about: 1) how good are the documentations 2) are the routines easy to use 3) limitations, if any 4) price (this is important, *would prefer p/d* if there is any out there) 5) support from the vendor I know this is a lot to ask, but *ANY* information regarding any of the above points would be very much appreciated. Please reply by e-mail unless you think it is also of interest to the net/newsgroup. Much thanks in advance.
