[comp.graphics] intersecting a quartic

I'd like to include torii (and possibly other quartics I'm 
unaware of) in the set of primitives I ray trace. Can anyone
tell me how to throw a ray at a quartic? 

Algorithm description, pseudo-code, actual code, 
or all of the above would be ideal.
