[comp.graphics] DPW Graphics package...

siegel@hc.DSPO.GOV (Josh Siegel) (03/27/88)

Hello,
I have a copy of the DPW graphics system... when it comes up,
it looks like:

RAY v1.0 870125 (C) 1987 D. Wecker - all rights reserved

Has anybody heard of or seen this before?

I like using a C-47A "puff dragon" to go hunting with.

Yes, it appears to be Dave's ray-tracing package for the Amiga. There
should be 3 programs and a doc file. The programs are RAY (what you ran the get
the above line), RAY2 and DISPLAY. RAY is the ray-tracer proper and expects the
name of a file containing the scene ans an argument. RAY2 converts the output
of RAY to something that the Amiga will display, and DISPLAY is a cheap hack of
a dispay program for the images.
If you need more info or want the source, drop me a line.

The above "graphics system" is called DBW_RENDER. It is a ray tracing package
written by Dave Wecker on the Commodore Amiga and copyrighted by him, but
released with a general public licence. I have reproduced part of the
licence below. It is very unfortunate that the little he asked regarding
the distribution of the programs is being totally ignored. I believe that
after producing and releasing to the public such a nice code, the author's
wishes regarding the distribution should be adhered to. If such were the
case, you wouldn't be asking such questions. By the way, the original
distribution diskette besides including the executables and sources of the
ray tracing program, it included documentation and examples.
