[net.cooks] Source for Herb Seeds?

kathleen@ihuxw.UUCP (K. S. Romanowski) (04/17/84)

Can anyone provide me with a retail or catalog source for herb seeds?
I am interested in growing fresh herbs and harvesting them for use
in recipes which call for only fresh ingredients. (I am not against
using dried ingredients; I only want to try new recipes.)

Any posting can be done to the net, as there may be other interested
people.

Thanks in advance.

All the major garden catalogues I've seen have most common herb
seeds (Burpee's especially comes to mind). A source for more
unusual varieties is Nichol's (sp?) Garden Nursery in Albany, Oregon.
I don't know the address, but Oregon information should have their
phone number.

The following catalogues are available free:

Abundant Life Seed Fnd.
P.O. Box 772
Poet Townsend, WA 98368

Borchelt Herb Gardens
474 Carriage Shop Rd.
E. Falmouth, MA 02536

Nichols Garden Nursery
1190 Pacific Highway
Albany OR 97321

Park Seed Co.
P.O. Box 31
Greenwood, SC 29646

Taylor's Herb Gardens,

When I had them a few years ago the Nichols' and Taylor's catalogues were
really good. Another interesting catalogue comes from Capriland's Herb
Farm. They will ship either seeds or live plants (at least they did a
few years ago. The address is:

             Capriland's Herb Farm
             Silver Street
             Coventry, CT 06238

Also a great book to have on hand is Paul Huson's Mastering Herbalism

I've done well with seeds from the corner grocery store for dill, parsley,
basil, and sage. I think they were either Northrup King or Burpee -
they came in an orange-brown packet. Haven't decided what to try
this year, but I expect it will do as well as the others have.
