We are looking for a geometric modelling system which supports both solid and surface modelling techniques, for use in mechanical engineering and robotics applications. The ideal system should include an interactive modelling environment as well as a facility for integration with application programs written in C, FORTRAN, LISP, or PROLOG. It should support parametric modelling. We are currently considering two systems; Alpha_1 by Engineering Geometry Systems, and the Unix implementation of PADL-2 from USC. Our environment consists of a Sun 3/260 with 16 Mbytes RAM, a GP2 graphics processor board, and a colour graphics monitor. The modelling system should take advantage of the GP hardware. Any information about such a system, or feedback from current users of Alpha_1 and PADL will be greatly appreciated.
