Does anyone know the current status of the ANSI X3.161 CGI (computer graphics interface) standard? I called ANSI and as of last week they did not have the document and listed it as being a draft standard, meaning its status is "draft." I was referred to Global Engineering Documents, a commercial vendor that specializes in printing and selling ANSI draft standards. The good people at Global told me that they had the document but that the date was December, 1986. Their feeling was that since this was about 18 months ago and the document is still in the "draft" stage, this was probably an outdated version of the draft standard document. Global referred me to the Chairthing of the ANSI X3.161 CGI Committee, Carla Vecchiet of Metheus, Inc. I was assured that as Chairman she would enlighten me. I called her about four times over a week and her secretary dutifully took my name/ph# and message and assured me I would be dealt with. I was - I never got any return calls or more importantly (yes, I tried leaving the simple question: what is the date of the current CGI draft standard document? with the sec. and offered to call back when the sec. got the answer) any information. I was told my messages were delivered. An ANSI X3 committee chairman who is inaccessible to even such a simple single question is arrogant and ridiculous, but that is another issue. Does anyone know the date of the current CGI draft document? Does anyone have any further status info beyond what I have presented here? Global seemed to think that the document was near finalization and that their December, 1986 copy of the CGI document was stale, but they weren't sure, hence their referral of me to the "horses mouth." BTW, I also called CBEMA X3 Secretariat and they also referred me to Ms. Vecchiet at Metheus as well as Global. {ihnp4,seismo}!harvard!cfa!ward ward@cfa.harvard.edu
