Well, they've done it again. EAA and ACM have scheduled the "must attend" conferences in the fields of aviation and computer graphics such that they overlap considerably. Grrrrrrr. Considering the number of SIGGRAPH folks who are light plane enthusiasts (and vice versa), one must assume that this is intentional, so we'll have to shoot the organizers of both events. The question remains though of how to attend both of them. It might be possible to attend the opening of Oshkosh, stay until the end of the airshow on Sunday afternoon, then either fly on to Atlanta or take a commercial flight there for SIGGRAPH (which begins in earnest on Monday morning). The reason I'm posting this is that I'm looking for someone who wants to go to both events, and might be interested in sharing a plane/expenses for this trip. I'm in the San Francisco / San Jose area, but could pick up someone along the way if it's not too far off-route. The plane would likely be either a Cessna 172RG or Mooney 201. Flight time to Oshkosh would be about 2 days. Oshkosh to Atlanta is about 4.5 to 5.5 hours depending on the aircraft. I can accomodate one person, or perhaps two medium to light weight folks. We'd be camping out of the airplane enroute and at Oshkosh (the normal way it's done for flying in). I'd prefer an instrument/complex rated pilot, but lower ratings are OK. If you're interested in discussing this, please give me a call or respond via e-mail. Time is short, so please reply soon if you're interested. My appologies to those graphics readers who have no interest at all in aviation (you don't know what you're missing).
