I saw LA-The Movie at SIGGRAPH 87 on the big screen.
As I recall it did not looked like much work (none) went in to anti-aliasing.
Am I mistaken?

How much work went into making this film (computation per frame, etc)?
References?

In order to get this you will need to find someplace that has ACM merchandise
order blanks. See if you can find a friend that is a member of the ACM and he
might have them or know where you can get some. Otherwise you can try a local
college library, if they have a computer science program worth its salt then
they will carry some of the ACM's publications. The very best solution would
be to find a friend that is not only a member of the ACM but also Siggraph
because the tapes are damned expensive and he/she can order them cheaper.

Discounts are for ACM members. There is no additional discount for being
a SIGGRAPH member too.
