[comp.graphics] looking for adaptive tessellation methods

I need to decompose parametric surfaces (bezier patches, b-spline, etc.)
into as few polygons as possible while keeping the maximum distance from
the actual surface to the polygons below some threshold.  I've looked
through a number of Siggraph proceedings but haven't found anything really
useful.  Anyone have any pointers?
