[net.cooks] Parasites in raw meat: chicken

andyb@dartvax.UUCP (Andy Behrens) (05/16/84)

Chickens often harbor salmonella, which can cause food poisoning. Even
though it's not as serious as trichinosis, it's not something I would
wish on my friends, either. The heat of ordinary cooking will remove
any danger.

If you handle raw chicken, wash your hands before working with other foods
that provide a good growth medium for salmonella and which will not be
further cooked. (Mayonnaise is a good example).
