[comp.graphics] Ithaca Software HOOPS

ken@gatech.edu (Ken Seefried III) (10/18/88)

I would be interested in hearing opinions on the Ithaca Software HOOPS
"object-oriented" graphics package. What kinds of things is it being used
for and at what level of success...?

Many thanks...

I have been using HOOPS for quite a while now, and I think it is the BEST
3D graphics library currently available. It appears to be actually used more
than PHIGS or PHIGS+, and it does stuff that those `standards' do not.

I know it is being used by at least 2 3D CAD manufacturers, and at the recent
NCGA CAD/CAM 88, I found that a number more were considering using it.
Their main reason for using it is the number of drivers it supports for varying
systems, and video boards.

It understand that it is also being used by FEA program manufacturers.

I'm impressed, and that isn't easy to do!!!

I would also be interested in hearing other peoples' opinions, and what
they use it for.

I would like to know how I can get information about HOOPS. Do they have
any papers? Is the software available?
