I am interested in starting a new newsgroup to deal strictly with the new area of fractals. My hopes for such a newsgroup include discussing: - Mathematical theories underlying fractal geometry. - The applicability of fractal geometry to physical things. - Artistic aesthetics of fractal images and music. - Announcement and exchange of computer programs for fractals. - Delving into non-"z=z^2+c" fractal formulas. - Improved algorithms for calculating fractals. - Diversions such as the "Fractal Engine" projects. - Methods to colorize fractal images. - Animation of fractal images on video. Since it started just a few months ago, a mailing list "frac-l@gitvm1.bitnet" has become very popular. The name I would like to suggest for this new newsgroup is "sci.fractals". It has also been suggested to me that "sci.math.fractals" might be appropriate. I would like to solicit your vote on the creation of this new newsgroup. Please send your votes, suggestions, and favorite fractals, to: Philip Howard <phil@uxg.cso.uiuc.edu> UUCP: uiucuxc!uxg!phil Thank you.
