Is anyone out there watching/listening the broadcasts of Wagner's "Ring"? I haven't got high quality TV/sound equipment, nor do I have time to listen if I did (nor can I afford to head off to Bayreuth). I'm interested in hearing opinions about this production, and details of "innovations" that the production allegedly contains. Greg Gadeholt Tektronix MDP

To my ears, the 1962 Bayreuth Festspiele recorded by Philips (NL) is easily
the best recording of the Ring to date. In fact, the recording quality is
quite amazing, given 1962 technology. Since the set was released only in
1975 (?) or so, I wonder how much fairly modern signal processing went into
the production release as compared to the original tapes...
Check especially Sawillisches' (sp?) Lohengrin... and I particularly
enjoyed Elsa's procession to the Cathedral..
On a different note, do any of the airlines offer trip packages to Bayreuth
at a discount rate?
