Well, I certainly liked the 4 pt. plan approach, however, publishing in
Siggraph Proceedings is not necessarily a requirement.  I have found out
it  is more WHO you know than what you know that opens doors.  Meeting 
people at conferences on a one-to-one basis is a lot better way to get
noticed out there.  Publishing certainly helps but sometimes, the people
that could very well hire you might not even read the proceedings or go
to the talks, so it's better to develop contacts as well.

I've worked at Evans & Sutherland and Cranston-Csuri and met a lot of
people along the way.
