[comp.graphics] Computer Mapping Systems

Classic_-_Concepts@cup.portal.com (01/17/89)

Can anyone provide information/sources on mapping systems (as in
street maps)? I have been told that there is a company called Optronics
who has developed a turnkey system for this purpose. The only other
information I have is that they might be a French company and that another
company called Intergraph distributes it. I am interested in finding out
configuration/prices/applications/learning curve/technical expertise
needed for this or similar systems. J. Petersen

Probably not exactly what your looking for, but...

There is a company in Boulder, "Computer Terrain Mapping, Inc.", that produces
3-D visualizations of 2-D maps. I've seen some of their stuff (as artwork
in a local gallery!) and it's quite good. I don't know what equipment
they use, but their software is mostly in-house.

You might contact them for further info.

Disclaimer: I don't have a vested interest in them, but Boulder software
companies need all the plugs they can get. 26 layoffs at PVI yesterday,
80 at NBI last week, Robotool the week before - even we got consumed.

Try:	ACDS Graphics Systems Inc.
	75 International Boulevard
	Etobicoke, Ontario

They have generic mapping systems and some vertically oriented (e.g.
public utility) type systems. They do sell turnkey systems but I
believe their systems can be customized by the user to a large extent.
