DORE is by far the easiest of the three dimensional graphics languages I've used (DORE, Silicon graphics gl, Sun PHIGS, and Apollo's). My DORE codes tend to be much shorter than in other languages, hence less debugging and less shoe-horning into a machine architecture. We have been waiting fourteen months for machine-independent DORE to ship (announced 2/88). The sales office has gradually been contracting its anticipated shipping time from "two months from now" to "shipped on 3/13/89" as of 3/13/89. I've seen the Sun-GP2 implementation. It has most of the Ardent functionality, but is a hundred time slower. I don't care if machine-independent DORE is not realtime as long as assists people in our laboratory in constructing 3-D images.
