I have just finished building the QRT v1.5 ray tracer from the sources posted in alt.sources. However, there are some problems. First, even though I set x_res=200, y_res=200, aspect=1.2 (which should be correct for a 320x200 MCGA IBM PC screen), Plus.QRT came out very stretched looking (i.e., the spheres looked like ellipses). The second problem involved colors. In addition to letting the user specify the resolution, etc., it would be nice to be able to specify the number of shades the program uses without having to modify qrt.h. I wanted to get 24-bit colors, so I changed CNUM to 256, but the resulting Plus.RAW file was screwed up, with the colors not making sense at all. So, there may be some other place where colors are hard-coded in the program, which I haven't had time to look at yet. Anyway, QRT v1.4 seemed to work well. Even though I had to play with the QRT.H file to get it to work - it did. I am not sure what is going on with the QRT v1.5 program. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? P.S.: The files were compiled on Sun 3/50's with GCC with "-O -m68881" -- Erik Talvola | "It's just what we need... a colossal negative talvola@cory.berkeley.edu | space wedgie of great power coming right at us ..!ucbvax!cory!talvola | at warp speed." -- Star Drek
