[comp.graphics] RIX color editor/paint for PC

rogers@falcon.SRC.Honeywell.COM (Brynn Rogers) (06/23/89)

I have been looking for a good paint type program that handles the
super-duper VGA resolutions of 800x600x256. The only one I have seen
is RIX, and it looked okay from the outside of the box (it has drivers
for most super VGA boards). The only thing that didn't look good was
the price, $175 [I may have dropped bits here, but it was 100<$$$<200]

Is it worth it? does anybody have experiance with RIX ?

not true. ATT Targa 16 cards do 64K colors per pixel at 512x512
There are lots of other boards that can handle 16 or 24 bits per pixel,
they just cost more than $2K. [ a Targa 16 might be a little less ]

Colorix is better than its packaging... the program can be bought here
in Houston for $ 99 (SoftWarehouse). I am using it in a professional
environment. Yes, it supports Targa 16, 14 and 32 formats, but only
with 256 colors, which doesn't do these files any justice. But I can
only recommend Colorix for its sophisticated featrures. The interface
stinks, and is not really up to snuff, there is a professional version
in the works, currently and I was told that would support 1024x768
with 256 colors...Call me if you need some more info (I'm not being
paid by these guys, but I believe software this powerful and this inexpensive
deserves support).
