It sounds horribly useful, since I have only a b/w Sun, but would like to be able to view color pics, which I could do with my VGA PC. If you (or anyone else) could either mail it to me or tell me where to get it, I'd appreciate it a lot. Ok, here is where you can get fbm. Apparently, Michael Mauldin also posted the package recently in (I believe) comp.sources.unix, or something like that. However, it is also available anonymous ftp from nl.cs.cmu.edu (128.2.222.56). You must cd to /usr/mlm/ftp directly upon logging in anonymous, you can't cd to any intermediate directories. Get the fbm tar and there you go. I've found it VERY useful on our Sun here, as it will convert between IFF (non-HAM), GIF, Sun-rasters, FACE, and some others that I don't rightly recall. It also has conversion programs to postscript, from qrt .RAW files, from Digiview Raw files (Amiga also), and many others. In addition, it does greyscaling, digital halftoning (of greyscales) and many other things. In any case, it has been put to a lot of use here. Good Luck! --- Prem Subrahmanyam p.s. if you can't reach there, send me a message, and I'll post it in our anon. ftp account here at geomag.gly.fsu.edu (128.186.10.2).
