The exhibition, along with registation and the film show will be held at the Hynes Convention Center on Boylston St. The exhibition takes place Aug 1-3. As I understand it, the courses and papers are going to be held in nearby hotels. All of which brings up an interesting question: How is Boston going to handle a conference of this size?? Boston is a wonderful and very interesting city, but the last Siggraph that was held there suffered from lack of space and attendance has risen quite a bit since then. Parking is a problem on the best of days, without a conference, and the street layout is confusing to a non-resident (even residents some times, legend has it that they evloved from cow paths). And Boston drivers! Well, I'm sure they will think of something. I would still suggest reserving a room at a conference hotel or at least housing near public transporation. -thomas williams- ---- Thomas Williams ..!{ucbvax|sun}!pixar!thaw 'There is no memory with less satisfaction in it than the memory of some temptation we resisted' ----

And Boston drivers! I moved here 2 years ago and am finally almost a Boston driver. The first year, I drove in terror and it will probably take another ten years before I get my black belt. By all means, do not plan on driving at all while here. Take taxis or the subway (which is pretty good, if you're near a station). Parking is tight and expensive. Driving is intolerable. But, if you have to drive, here's a tip. Drive OUT of the city, to Newton or to Route 128, drive to one of the T (subway) stations there, park and take the subway in. That's what I do -- even when there's no convention in town. --Carl Ellison UUCP:: cme@cloud9.Stratus.COM SNail:: Stratus Computer; 55 Fairbanks Blvd.; Marlborough MA 01752 Disclaimer:: (of course)

The convention center is newly remodeled and enlarged, but yes, it will be cozy. > Parking is a problem on the best of days [...] > I would still suggest reserving > a room at a conference hotel or at least housing near public transporation. > > -thomas williams- SIGGRAPH, as always, will provide free transportation between the conference hotels and the convention center. It is a short, inexpensive (under $10) taxi ride from the airport to the downtown hotels. Unless you're determined to experience driving in Boston, there is no reason to rent a car. Even if you're staying in a non-conference hotel, it's probably a good idea to stick with public transportation. BTW, if advance registration is any indication, there will be lines at onsite registration. There is still (barely) time to register in advance... -Brian Herzog herzog@sun.com "Badge?
