In response to your question... "How did they do this", I can explain how I built my mountain. I didn't see the item that you are referring to. Several months back, my company built an exact duplicate of Mt. MacDonald for CP Rail. They were making a video of how they built the new tunnel through it, and needed a lot of 3D animation to explain how it was done. Luckily, they had a scale model made for the architects, so we were able to use that as reference. The data itself was inputed using a 3D digitizer. This is like a normal digitizing pad, except it has a Z axis. Thus the wand can be moved around in 3D space instead of a 2D tablet. The model was carefully marked into triangulated segments, and the points of these triangles were input into the computer... To be honest... if we did it again, I'd rather build a real mountain.
