Hello. I would like to enhance an application I am writing so that it can read an image file and further process it. As I understand, there are a few common formats around, some more common than others. Would any of the readers of this newsgroup be kind enough to guide me on the following: Which are the most common formats? Where can I find their specification (books, manuals, texts -or are the common formats proprietary perhaps?) ? Are there any PD standards or de facto standards? Are decoding and conversion algorithms and programs commonly or even freely available? More specific (the answers to the above questions would constitute a textbook on the subject, I believe) the application I have in mind is a program that takes some common image format and stuffs it down a FAX line ( is that CCITT Group 3 1-D modified Huffman?- ). I am grateful for any comments about the above, references or anything. Please bear with me, if these questions are frequent or ignorant.
