I'm looking for a Targa .TGA --> .GIF converter. Is there one around? How are all the color .GIFs made? I can go from TIF to GIF, so grayscales make sense, but how do you scan a color image? (I know I can create a color image with out Targa 16 board --- is this where color GIFs start???) Thanks, Declan J. Fleming U. of Ill.

We have been working with GIF's here at Kingdom Productions for a while now and even though I'm not a programmer, I know that the color GIF's can basically come from a variety of sources. Scanning is just one way of getting these images. We are using SCR2GIF, a shareware program by Bill Fleisher of Kentwood, MI successfully. This is a screen capture utility, which will then also convert captured screen (can be generated with just about any program) to GIF format. Another way generate GIF is through Hijaak, by Inset Systems, a really universal conversion program (It supports a whole lot of different formats, GIF is one of them.) Yet another program we're working with is ColoRIX by Rix Softworks, it supports 800x600 resolution with 256 colors. ColoRiX imports all Targa formats and exports them. It's possible to import Targa and then generate (through ColoRiX) a .SCR file -which in turn can be made in to a GIF with the Help of SCR2GIF. By the way: We make hi-resolution slides from all of the above...call me at (713) 526-2331 or call our board at (713) 630-0553. Roger Hausmann. Kingdom Productions. Houston,TX

for the IBM-PC, use VPIC version 1.4 or greater. It can display uncompressed TARGA 16 files and the when it appears on your VGA (required), you can press 'G' and save it to disk! Look for VPIC19.ARC on compuserve or VPIC19.ZIP on other systems. E-mail me if you want to get it from me. Also, RIX VGA paint (COLORIX) will read TARGA 16 images... -Ric- (Ric@cup.portal.com)
