[comp.graphics] usa map

I understand there is a Public Domain file that contains either
a map or the data points for drawing a map of the us.  A gov't
organization created it.  It is refered to with four letters, like
GDPS (this is not right).  Does anybody know where I can get a copy
of this.  It is supposed to be very accurate and detailed, containing
many highways and streets.  
Any info would be appreciated.

	I have been trying to locate a GIF standard picture of the usa, but
	have had no luck.  Has anyone such a picture, either in GIF format, or
	something that can be displayed on VGA?
