The University of Lowell's Graphics Research Laboratory Lowell, MA (Prof. Dr. Georges Grinstein, Director) in co-operation with FhG-AGD (Fraunhofer-Arbeitsgruppe Graphische Datenverarbeitung) Darmstadt, West Germany (Prof. Dr. Jose L. Encarnacao, Director) is currently involved in developing a requirements database for computer graphics for ISO, the International Standards Organisation. User requirements will first be acquired, then grouped and finally processed into the database. They will help indicate what new standards are needed as well as provide an intial description of the necessary functionality. ISO has just finished processing PHIGS, which is now an international standard. We have developed a questionnaire in co-operation with ISO, ANSI, the American National Standards Institute and DIN, the Deutsches Institut fuer Normung, that includes questions on current and future ISO activities. This questionnaire is an opportunity for users of graphics and imaging packages to influence the design and direction of future standards. The areas we have selected for initial focus pertain to the New API (Application Programmer's Interface), Imaging and GKS (Graphical Kernel System) Review. We would like more serious input from you the user of graphics standards (PHIGS, GKS, ...) and de facto standards (X Windows, ...). If you would like to support any of these activities, please indicate which topic you are interested in and we will send you a copy of the desired questionnaire via electronic mail along with a pamphlet explaining the background of each question.
