[comp.graphics] Equal Opportunity CPU Cycle Stealer

buck@drax.gsfc.nasa.gov (Loren (Buck) Buchanan) (09/22/89)

At SIGGRAPH this year they had a best t-shirt slogan contest. One of
the comments in the contest announcement was about how the "no jaggies"
t-shirt had an impact on the development of computer graphics hardware
and software in the last half of the 80s. Well, I am propsing that
we adopt the slogan "Equal Opportunity CPU Cycle Stealer" to get
people to thinking about writing their programs to take advantage of
all those idle CPUs sitting on your LAN.

I would like to ask for suggestions for an official EOCCS logo. Please
do not post these suggestions to the net (e-mail or snail-mail is fine,
but if you insist on phone-mail wait until October to call). I plan on
finalizing the design by the end of year.

Now, just to make sure there is additional traffic on the net, what
graphics systems are there that can take advantage of idle CPUs. I know
that the BRL CAD package ray tracer has been quite successful. It can
have a remote machine work on set of scan lines and then transfer the
results back to the controling machine.
