[comp.graphics] Looking for a Dore SPARC port

rick@hanauma (Richard Ottolini) (10/06/89)

Has anyone ported the Stardent Dore 3-D graphics language to a SPARC station?

Stardent divides its ports into two categories: dynamic (realtime gourand) and
production (raytracing). Their official distribution has a dynamic Stardent
TITAN and Sun GP2 ports, and production sunview and rasterfile ports.
I am looking for a cgsix, i.e. SPARC CXP, dynamic port.

I believe that the ray-tracing portion of Dore' should work on the SPARC station
as of release 2.2, however there is a need for Dore' programmers to get the
dynamic renderers on the new architectures as they emerge. The dilemma for Dore'
is that gouraud shading and hidden surface removal among other things take
a powerful graphics processor to accomplish an image in a short amount of time.
So they concentrated on the more powerful graphics accelerators such as the
Sun GP2. I've heard that they are nearing release of a generic X-windows Dore'
port which should make ports available for a wide range of machines immediately
thereafter.
The Dore' mailing list has been established to allow the discussion of Dore'
futures, as well as "just questions". To be put on the mailing list send a
