[comp.graphics] video animation equipment

parent@cis.ohio-state.edu (Richard Parent) (10/19/89)

I'm interested in getting people's opinions about video animation
equipment. We will be outputting from HP workstations (~1000x1000)
and I would like to get people's experience concerning:

a) hi-res rgb to NTSC converters, e.g,
	YEM
	Lyon-Lamb
	Folsom

b) laser/optical disc recorders, e.g.,
	Pioneer
	Panasonic
	Sony
	Teac

c) digital disk recorders, e.g,
Abekas (although may be out just out of our price range)

d) single frame video controllers, e.g.,
	Lyon-Lamb
	DiaQuest

d.1) video recorders to use with a single frame video controller, e.g.,
	Sony

We have $25K in the bank and a good possibility of $40K more, and then may be
able to squeeze some more out of somewhere if absolutely necessary.

We are doing full color. And would like to maintain fairly good image quality
(within the limits of NTSC).

i'd be interested in reliability, cost-performance, image quality, etc.
including recommendations for brands not listed above, who to stay
away from, other ideas for recording video animatin, etc. Full configuration
recommendations or recommendations for specific pieces apprciated

if there is interest i'll summarize and send to individuals or post.
