[comp.graphics] Eraseable Optical Disks on Silicon Graphics

pensak@eplrx7.UUCP (pensak) (10/21/89)

We have been using the Genesis Imaging Corperation's Erasable Magneto Optical Drive
(600 MB per platter) for procassing and analysis of two-dimensional nuclear magnetic
resonance data. The unit is easily installed on any Silicon Graphics computer via
a SCSI interface (it took me about two minutes to install the unit and software),
and disk formatting takes about 15 sec (per side). Using the FTNMR software package from
Hare Research, Inc., we see no loss in data processing speed when compared to processing
with the hard disk that came with the SGI computer. Pure read and writes are about
twice as slow on the Optical Drive compared to the Hard disk. Genesis' phone number
is: (215)-933-4848 (ask for John Fox).
