[comp.graphics] natural colourmap wanted

russell@minster.york.ac.uk (10/24/89)

Has anyone out there got a 256 level colourmap of "natural" colours, i.e. those
that we see around us. I appreciate that there are more than 256 of them in total,
but there must be a `most common' subset. I am doing some image processing and
require these natural shades. A 256 colour palatte would do, but I'd prefer a
colourmap since I hope it'd have some continuity between adjacent indexes, and this
continuity is important in the viewing of images (just try to pick out features in
an image with a random colourmap!).

Any help or pointers etc. would be greatly appreciated - I'll summarise here if
there are any reasonable replies!

Thanks,

Russell.
