I personally don't think this is the right forum for posting image files, although of course this has to be a democratic decision. My main concern is with those people who get their usenet feed via a telephone line. I can be very costly to get these large files just to throw them away if you are not interested. I think of comp.graphics as a forum for asking graphics related questions and discussion. Short things, which are of interest to the community at large. If you do have some really, really cool pictures that you think the world should be able to see, why don't you make them available for anon ftp? Now some people don't have ftp access but that could be handled by those people sending you a note that they are interested in your pictures and you could respond with mail directly to them. If this is too much of a bother to you, you should consider your pictures not that important after all (no insult intended!). (Rolf, what do you think?) Peter peter@media-lab.media.mit.edu

I like to see nice pictures as much as anyone. However I feel this group should be left to the discussion on how to create graphics, not for posting the results. I would rather see the creation of a new news group that would be used for the distribution of graphics images and the programs to view them on the more popular machines. I would also not want to limit this to a format such as GIF or TIFF, since these have their limits. Ray tracing programs and the image data files that go with them should also be appropriate source for this new group. Since the volume of such a group would likely be very high, I cannot see it existing without a moderator. This would prevent copyrighted or offensive material from getting out, and would limit the postings to less than 100K bytes (or less) a day. I would love to be such a moderator, but my current job dictates otherwise. Any takers? -- # Mark D. Salzman Phone: (206) 253-5542. # The more complex the mind, # Tektronix Inc., P.O.
