I saw the same thing when I tried it.  What I realized (using a different
converter called tiff2sun) was that it assumed that each horizontal line
of the image was padded to the end of the word (16 bits) just like a
Sun rasterfile is, but the TIFF files I scanned on a Mac were only padded
to the next byte, thus causing the skewing.  When I corrected the code
to account for the differences in padding, it worked.  I assume something
similar is wrong with tif2rast, but I have not had the ambition to go
back and look.
