The recent work which verified the explorer Robert Peary's claims
of having reached the North Pole is a good example of where scientific
visualization will be going.  I saw an article about this in the latest
National Geographic.  Unfortunately, they totally munged the description
of photogrammetric technique, probably to avoid putting any math
(geometry or algebra) into the article.  It is a typical example of
how one can extract more information given some non-pictoral data.
Hopefully other articles will appear, but I want to draw your attention
to this article and away from more hyperbull.
