Weather? Landsat? Altimetry? ... I've seen weather images posted somewhere. Landsat are 3500 x 4000 x 24 bits, large and expensive. There may be demo pieces about. particularly S.F. and Boston.

Any of these would be fine. So far I've found a source in Finland - kannel.lut.fi. It has a lot, but the transfer time sucks. d

Well folks, remember that Finland (as the rest oc Scandinavia) is connected to the states via a lousy 64 kbit/s feed.. If say, 20 people is using ftp to our site _alone_ from USA, and all the newsfeeds and other traffic is counted to it you can't expect a blazing transfer speed from our site. Please, PLEASE use the time after, say 10pm EST as much as possible. And check the U.S GIF-sites first. But if you can't find the picture you're looking from more 'local' sites, feel free to use kannel.lut.fi !! All weather imagery is going to get you is cloud cover. If you want Landsat Multispectral Scanner or Thematic Mapper data, you probably won't find it ftpable from anywhere. Depending on coverage and spatial resolution, a tape of satellite imagery can cost thousands of dollars and usually comes with a liscense agreement regarding not disseminating it. There might be some old stuff out there. If you find some, let me know. -Bob Deroy Boston University Center for Remote Sensing
