Feb 90 Scientific American has a pictorial article describing both in the human body. Fractal-like growth can explain how a relatively small amount of single growth information can result in apparently complex organ structures. The reason is that large scale structures mimic small scale structures, so less hereditary information is necessary. The deterministic chaos part of the article hypothesizes how fractal-like growth is acheived.
