I'm currently preparing a survey paper on applications of quaternions in computer graphics. I'm aware of the following publications: - Lara-Feria, A. and Verdaguer-Codina, J., Computer graphics with quaternions, ETSETB Barcelona, preprint, 1987. - Pletinckx, D., The use of quaternions for animation, modeling and rendering, in: Magnenat-Thalmann, N. and Magnenat-Thalmann, D. (eds.), New Trends in Computer Graphics, 44-53, Springer, 1988. - Pletinckx, D., Quaternion calculus as a basic tool in computer graphics, The Visual Computer 5, 2-13, 1989. - Shoemake, K., Animating rotation with quaternion curves, Computer Graphics 19, No 3 (Proc. SIGGRAPH'85), 245-254, 1985. - Shoemake, K., Quaternion calculus and fast animation, in: Computer Animation: 3D Motion Specification and Control, SIGGRAPH'87 Tutorial Notes, 101-121, ACM SIGGRAPH, 1987. I also have sufficient background material on quaternions itself. It would be interesting, however, if someone knows about additional material on the use of quaternions in computer graphics that is not listed above. I'm thinking e.g. about unpublished technical reports or papers that may have appeared in areas like computer animation or engineering. So if you've seen something, please mail me. -Hans-Peter

I have used quaternions in fractal graphics. All of the fractal code I have seen used 2-dimensional complex math to compute fractal images. I extended this to quaternions to compute 3-dimensional fractals. I haven't seen this use of quaternions published anywhere, and haven't submitted anything myself. Just thought you might be interested. Don Novy Hewlett-Packard den@hpfitst2.hp.com
