I'm trying to find out what to recommend as far as plotting environments for a biology faculty member here who only knows FORTRAN. He's used to creating small scale plots using various older or public domain plotting packages. Typically he produces maps of tree canopies and paths taken by squirrels, etc. He mentioned a desire to do some time series 3d wire frame type plots. He didn't seem aware of or see the need of rendering or solid modeling type software. The machines that he might move to are apollo DN 3550's. I'm concerned that he remain with a fairly high level package and that the package makes sense to him without burdening him with X-windows, etc. (Mostly because I don't have experience in this area either.) If we had some money what would you suggest we try to purchase? He has used MONGO and PLOT-10 in the past. We have Cal-Tech's PGPLOT here, but he hasn't used it. I personally don't like GKS. Is PHIGS good stuff? Any help would be appreciated. Please mail directly to me so I can summarize. ---- (first signature, in case postnews doesn't put one on) ---- John Campbell ...!arizona!naucse!jdc CAMPBELL@NAUVAX.bitnet unix?
