Hello graphics people, I was wondering if anyone out there has written a "get" program for the Utah Raster Toolkit, that will display on a 24 bit per pixel frame buffer for the Sun. I have contacted the authors of the URT, and they do not have one. If no one has one, then I will be forced to try and write one myself. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter. Please reply by e-mail to me. Regards, Andrew Kemp (andrew@saturn.cs.swin.oz - ACSnet)

I must be getting senile in my old age, because I don't remember Andrew's query. In any case, there are two options: 1. cnv/rletorast looks to me as if it will create 24 bit Sun raster files (which Sun, presumably, provides a display tool for). (I tested this, and 'file' says the result is a 'rasterfile, 512x480x24 standard format image'.) 2. If you're running X windows (which I assume you're not), getX11 will display in 24 bits. (We've got a much improved version of getX11 almost ready for distribution. We'll probably send it out separately, since "release 3" seems to be a ways off, yet.) So, while there is no direct display program for SunTools (or whatever they're calling it), it is possible to display 24 bit images. -- =Spencer (spencer@eecs.umich.edu)
