GUMDROP FRUIT CAKE

1 to 2 lbs gumdrops (no black or purple) - a pkg. large cut in 8ths.
			1 pkg. small spiced
1 c. pecans, fried or roasted in a little butter
1 lb. white raisins
1 lb. mixed candied fruit (cherries look good)
4 c flour
1 t cinnanmon
1/4 t cloves
1/4 t nutmeg
1/2 t salt
1 c butter
2 c sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2  hot apple sauce (we always made our own but you can use canned)
1 t soda
1 t vanilla

Sift flour with spices, soda and salt. Cut up gumdrops (dipping sissors
in flour) and mix nutmeats, raisins, fruit into flour.

Add shortening to hot apple sauce, let cool slightly, then add eggs which
have been beaten with sugar and vanilla. Then add floured nut, fruit
and gumdrop mixture. Pour into greased pan(s) - one large oblonge or
two loaf - lined with greased waxed paper and bake approxiamtely 2 hrs
in 300 degree oven.

This is not a fruitcake that you age, though it will keep a couple of
weeks. Also poor a few tablespoons of rum or brandy over it while it's
cooling.
