[comp.graphics] Edge Gathering

  Greetings and Computations:

   Could someone kindly guide me to any algorithms/references for
   "Edge gathering"?  Code samples (in just about any language) would
   be great!

   Is "edge gathering" the right term?  What I'm looking for is the
   reconstruction of a curved surface from flat panels.  I presume
   there is some sort of normal's averaging that happens???  (If it
   matters any, this is all with respect to ray-tracing.)
