[comp.graphics] Can this be done ??

chrisb@hubcap.clemson.edu (Chris B.) (02/02/90)

We have a new Versatec 36" color electrostatic plotter at our Computer
Center connected to our IBM/370 mainframe, and our VAX/VMS system.
Would it be possible to print either GIF, TIFF, or IMG format images on
this printer ??? I have been reading this group for some time, and have
NEVER EVER EVER heard anybody ask this before.
ANY info. appreciated... Leads on shareware, PD, or personal
collection software much appreciated. Please help.

Thank You.

Just as a lead to shareware, keep your eye out for a program called
GIFDOT.ZIP. It is supposed to allow you to print gifs on a dot matrix printer.
I only have CGA so dont mess with GIFS much so I cant tell you how good/bad
the program is. Sorry. It should be available on some of your local
bulletin boards.

I have tried GIF's on CGA. Some don't turn out too badly and others are
unviewable. It depends on the colors and detail of the original GIF as
well as the original mode intended.

I have also tried GIFDOT on an Epson EX1000. It is passable but for good
definition you'de better have a good ribbon. Again it seems to depend on
the individual GIF how well it turns out.
