[comp.graphics] IMAGES

cyrus@hi.unm.edu (Tait Cyrus) (03/11/88)

It seems that once a month someone asks where they can get
ahold of some images to play with. Well, for those of you
looking for images to "play" with, I have some images
available that you can have. They are available via
anonymous ftp on hc.dspo.gov (26.1.0.90). The images are
in pub/images. There are two directories 'old' and 'new'.
Both contain images as well as a README. The README's
describe the sizes of the images and basically what the
images are of. Because of disk space constraints, all of the
images are compressed. All of the images, but one, are
grey scale. The other is an image of a mandril in color.
Three files make up the madril, one for green, red and
blue.

Currently there are 20 images. As time goes on this number
will be increasing (I hope), so if you are interested in
images, you might want to check once a month or so to see
if there are any new ones.

If you have any images which you would like to make available,
please let me know. I would like to put them with the ones
I currently have (kind of like a repository).

Enough of flaming for sending one more GIF image? I picked up all the
downloaded Silicon Graphics images, run it thru my homemade Gif to
Paintjet program on my Atari ST, and they look real nice!
Anyway, next time I would of course be happy to know where I can FTP
nice, computer produced images.
I would also like to know where I can download more interesting images!
On most anonymous FTP sites I can see long lists of images, with some
cryptical name and no description, and I throw most images as they are
uninteresting once I can have a look at them. Please - have a good INDEX
file in those directories, and THAT would save a lot of bandwidth!
