I have a small rendering question and was wondering what other people do. I am writing a renderer that can use surfaces specified by spectral curves. The user will control the number of samples taken from the curve. The problem is that the texture mapping (environment mapping ...) is in "RGB" space. How would I apply the map to the spectrally defined surface? Do I convert the RGB value to the appropriate wavelengths? Do I calculate effective RGB color of the object? Somehow do it in CIE space? -- Robert E.
