I've actually seen a preprint of this book. It is very good -- it's about the only graphics textbook with actual, "hard-core" information, not simplifying things to the point of unusability. Oddly enough, I've heard that the publisher is printing it primarily as a "public service" -- it expects to _lose_ money on the book. (It expects to continue making money on the first edition, though, which is much less complete). I suppose it figures... I don't know a release date for the book, but the preprint, which is several months old by now, still needed a lot of work... jonathan

I am currently taking a graphics course at George Washington University (Dr. Foley's school). We are using the manuscript of the new edition of this book for our text. In my opinion, the new book is excellent. It includes topics such as PHIGS, radiosity, animation, and physical-based modeling as well as the conventional set of graphics topics. I think that most people will really like it when it finally appears. (Don't ask me when. I have no better idea than you.) Randy Rohrer
