The SIGGRAPH registration folks have asked me to post the following alert: don't submit duplicate fax and hardcopy registrations! Apparently, many people are submitting registrations via fax, and paying via credit card, which is fine. However, a significant number of these people are then mailing in their already-faxed registration form, with "duplicate of fax" or something similar written across the top. This is not fine. Here's what's happening. For reasons of financial propriety, almost all SIGGRAPH registration forms go straight to the bank, where clerks deposit the checks and process the credit card transactions, and then forward the forms to SIGGRAPH personnel for processing the actual registration. The bank clerks *ignore* everything on the forms except the relevant credit card info. So, you guessed it, if you submit a fax registration, and then follow up with hard copy, you get registered and *charged* twice for the conference. The good news is that the SIGGRAPH personnel catch this when they file the forms, and are cancelling the second registration and issuing credit refunds, as they find the duplications. However, depending on when the second reg comes in, and when the form gets filed, and your billing cycle, the refund may not come through on the same statement as the duplicate charge. If you've already filed a fax registration and duplicate hardcopy registration, do nothing. Your refund will come through. Contact SIGGRAPH only if the refund has not appeared by the billing statement after the duplicate charge. (Since the early reg deadline is June 29, I'm tempted to ask why you bothered to fax your registration when you were going to mail it anyway, but I won't. :-) If you are going to fax your registration, great, but don't follow up with mailed hardcopy! (and vice versa). And please, don't wait until the last minute to send your fax - you'll be competing for time on one machine, and, as stated clearly in the advance program, SIGGRAPH will not be responsible if you miss the deadline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brian Herzog "Badges?
