I would like to acquire a color scanner and appropriate software to allow me to scan photographs or material printed in books, producing .GIF format files. I would be interested in your recommendations for flatbed color scanners and appropriate software for either the IBM PC (preferable) or Macintosh environments that would allow me to scan an image, perhaps to reduce its size, and adjust contrast and color mapping, then to put out a .GIF file. I am told the HP Color Scanner is pretty good. Can anybody confirm/deny? I saw some ads for a product from Xerox that does digital retouching. Does this software do .GIF and does it support color? Anybody have any experience with it? If sufficient replies & interest, I'll summarize and post. Thanks, -brent williams ingres corporation tech marketing
